Basic Requirements for Design and Construction of Clay Blankets

Basic requirements for the design and construction of clay liners as impervious blankets are briefly described in this paper. Various factors, which influence the liner performance are first described. Damaging factors, which may be experienced are then outlined. The role of important factors such as liner thickness, bonding between neighbouring lifts, the soil properties, initial degree of saturationon of soil while cpmpacting, and compaction specifications and performance on hydraulic conductivity of clay liners is next explaind. Necessary recommendations for performance of better liners in practice are given.
